and zero chemistry between Gary Cooper and Helen Hayes: 6/10. For some strange reason,
Hemingway just doesn't seem to translate well to the silver screen.

I thought this was very good, actually... it helped that when I saw it I had very recently read the novel. I'd agree that Hemingway doesn't always translate well but this is a rare successful effort, I'd say. 7/10

Fair enough, carry on. I had read the novel also. Actually the best translation of Hemingway to the silver screen was
To Have And Have Not. Of course, having Bogie and Bacall helped.
