1931 or 1932?
IMDb lists this as coming out in 1931, but I have two film books which say it came out in 1932.
Which is correct?

Part --- or all --- of the ambiguity may be that the film was released on 12/31/1931.
In the motion picture industry, there's a difference between a chronological year and the industry's year.
The Motion Picture Academy's year which runs from 12/26 to 12/25. In order for a movie to be nominated for an Oscar in any current year, the movie has to have debuted by 12/25 of the previous year. Any movie that debuts after 12/25 would be considered from the following year. Ergo, the MPAA would have considered this a 1932 movie even though it debuted on 12/31/31.
Confusing, isn't it?
Thanks. That actually makes sense and explains why a lot of Oscar contenders have opened on Christmas Day. That was very illuminating.
