Where's Le Testament du Docteur Cordelier?

You will find that I am more human than all those who call me monster.

I can't say this was a bad film, but I'm surprised and rather depressed to see it is the best in terms of ratings. I thought that, although it was quite good as a film, it was a disaster as an adaptation. It captures nothing of the book for me, it makes changes that are not only the small necessary changes you have to do to a book when you turn it into a film, but that alter the essence of the story.
When I saw it, I just thought there must be dozens of adaptations of this story and that I'd probably just had the misfortune of getting a bad one. But apparently it's considered to be the best...
I've just started watching the 1941 version, and it seems that they copied the scenario from this one, except it's even worse.
So I wonder if it's just like Dracula : a wonderful book that has been adapted dozens of times, but never in a decent and remotely faithful way.

Yes, where are La Testament du Dr Cordelier 1959 AND Jerry Lewis´ The Nutty Professor 1963 (comedy)?
