Poor Ivy

I feel like Mr. Hyde is sort of inflicted on her as a punishment for being voluptuous and enjoying sex. She doesn't at all deserve what she gets.

Neither does his fiancee…

Chaos reigns

I wonder. Ivy is definitely a temptation so 'bad' only the dark side of nature can affiliate with her, but it wasn't clear to me whether this was because he was engaged to someone else or just because she was a prostitute.

I felt totally sorry for her though.

Never, never, never, never, never

I felt terribly sorry for her. In the 1940s version, I found her character to be even more sympathetic - so much so that her treatment and death overshadowed the film itself. It was one thing to kill her, or to keep her a captive living in fear, but to prolong her suffering and then end it by killing her? I scarcely cared to see the rest of the film after that.

And Hyde's own punishment was completely unsatisfactory.

I agree. I felt really sorry for her and it made me HATE Edward Hyde even more. She didn't deserve die. Maybe I should see the 1940s version to get more of the feel of her character. Yes but Hyde should've burned terribly for what he'd done.

reply

Indeed, I felt very bad for her as well.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

i saw three different movie versions of this with pretty close viewings, the ones from the 30's, 40's and the 60's tv movie, no doubt my favorite was the latter, but in all versions i feel terribly for the loose girl, especially in the 1940's version, as has already been mentioned here, i completely agree with skye_reynolds, it overshadowed everything. i got the 1930's and the 1940's version on a double feature dvd including commentary by film historian, trailer and a classic cartoon for a pretty cheap price.

heat on the stove,
would you like some coffee indoors,
while waiting for the monsters coming in by the railroad,
i'll keep them in the basement section,
do you wanna see my collection,
i'll release them out in the cities and in the woods,
on halloween i've removed the bolt and they're comin after you.
