WOW! Whatta flick!
Believe it or not, yesterday, February 9 was the FIRST time I had ever watched this magnificent film in its entirety. I had purchased the WARNER BROTHERS' GANGSTER films collection on DVD and this was my first view.
While the DVD transfer is crisp and clear, I was floored by Wild Bill Wellman's direction! His staging of scenes, his moving of the camera as well as his action scenes- amazing work filming dialouge in real location/moving car scenes.
Of course Cagney's performance is nothing short of amazing.
Also obvious is Coppola and Puzo's homage to this film in THE GODFATHER - the marine Micheal wanting to be "straight". Crimes against horses, and many other allusions.
The sexual frankness in the boudois (sp) scene between Cagney and Harlow- wow!
Great film folks!
Keep The Change Bob.
