By the off chance I added this to my queue at netflix and I found it to be great. I think even today The Public Enemy holds up. I found Cagney's acting to be spot-on. There's something about watching a borderline pyschotic in any movie that really holds my attention. All they have to do is step into frame and tension starts to build.

This is a great early gangster film. In fact it is supposedly only the 2nd gangster film Hollywood ever made. So many films have taken from it over the years. There is even much tribute paid to it in A Clockwork Orange. Kubrick was big fan of Cagney's, and of this film quite obviously.

Definitely, it's only one of the most thought provking films ever made.
