Televison technology 1931?

After the gang throws a firebomb into when of Ryans Businesses. maybe it was a Bar, the next scene shows a Newspaper showing the Ryan bombing etc. If you look on the bottom line of the Newspaper. It says something about television Technology. I don;t remember the exact words .But It did mention Television. Is it possible they had the technology or more then the theory of television. anyone who reads this. go back to that scene. Tell me what you think. I always assumed Television technology did not come until the 1940's. But this was 1931, incredible of they really knew that television was on its way. They had just perfected sound on the movies. but, The movie studios must have been scared to death when they heard about this little screen ,that you can receive movies, sports, shows, etc. I remember in the 1950's the movie studios thought they were doomed by this little screen that the average working man could buy and bring home.

Television Given Scientific Test By Regent Board at...

TV was brought to mainstream US consciousness due to the 1939 World's Fair (although not much could be done about until after the war). So I do find if odd that a front page article would be about it. But US testing did take place in 1927-1928 with experimental stations.

I am still suprised at the Newspaper Article , I went back to the Movie and checked. It apperars that they had some patents. for technology in the 1927-28 From England an France, RCA was also a player in this Televison technology. It appears a guy named Farnsworth was doing research on this technology.they were in court for years fighting for rights to this technology.this maybe was what this newpaper article referred to.

Both England and Germany had commercial television before World War Two. They broadcast cooking shows, exercise shows, variety programs, excerpts from plays and news digests. In Germany, there were special buildings where you could go and watch whatever was playing on TV monitors.
Obviously, the war ended TV broadcasting because resources were needed elsewhere.

Here's a photo of Herbert Hoover in the first public demonstration of a long-distance television broadcast.
The year is 1927.

Ah this Hoover demo surprised me. I understood (from the movie and book "Contact" by Carl Sagan) that the first broadcast was Hitler's opening of the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. I was wrong. It was however the most powerful broadcast at the time. The first once that could have possibly escaped the ionosphere into outer space. Not very likely but possibly. This Hoover one was evidently the first (officially. I'm sure some testing of this was done before).
