Cast laughed at the script?

I swore a few years ago, I had read that the actress playing Mina, Helen Chandler and David Manners, thought the script was funny and no one would like it and of course they were wrong. I swore it was in the trivia section and I don't see it. Did anyone ever read this??

That is true. David Manners in particular never liked movie making, and his career was a short one by his own choice. To the very end of his life he didn't really understood the interest in his Universal horror films.

Helen Chandler was something of an up-and-comer and she viewed the film as just another job.
