No not yet, it'll be a few more weeks. Oh well.... Vertigo is playing there now which is very cool, can't wait to see it on a big screen. As I said, I'm very excited about it as this seems to be a favorite among many (at least someone finally replied!).
I saw the film this evening. My first silent movie, and it is right up with my favourites! It makes one realise the impact and importance of gestures, body language... it is so perfect with no dialogues...
and those last 5 minutes, never have i truly despised a character as i did those two brats! i felt like going back in time and kicking them in their pre-pubescent nuts! and the look on charles' face when these guys are harassing him... i felt something in my stomach.. add to that the brilliant musical score... i've had to rewind and watch those 5 minutes atleast 5o times and it gets deeper every time!
Vans338 mate i wish i could see this on a big screen but im glad ive atleast seen this movie now!
I had a chance to see City Lights when it was playing at the Film Forum in New York City a few weeks ago. I've viewed the film many times before, but being in a movie theater with a live audience was like seeing it with new eyes. It was quite interesting seeing which gags got the biggest laughs. And of course the ending just bowled me over.
Yeah, the website for the theater doesn't say when it'll play. Just that it's coming soon.
Vertigo was as great as ever. The audience however, was awful. Lots of noise and unnecessary laughter. I can understand some lines especially regarding Jimmy Stewart's delivery ("Drink this right down, it's like medicine" made me smile), but Vertigo just isn't funny to me at all. For instance, when he says starts on about her hair people started laughing. Not only is it maddening but just flat out distracting.
I'm delighted for you, but also slightly envious. CITY LIGHTS is quite possibly the most beautiful movie ever made. You'll laugh and you'll cry easily. You don't need to see any Chaplin films before this one, and you don't really need to see any films before this one. You'll have a glorious experience. Enjoy!
