I certainly didn't wait to get so moved in the end....

This was a great movie, guys!Although it was not so funny as Modern Times, it was more touching and sensitive! In the end, i nearly cried, and i wasn't expecting that!!!And sadly,i think she did reject him...

Yeah, you definitely get the "vibes" that she's genuinely touched and grateful, and everything, but there's no way in Sam Hill the formerly blind Flower Girl will ever elope with the Tramp!

Agreed. I finally just saw the movie this weekend. I know what it's about, and that the ending is supposed to be emotional, but even knowing all of that I still teared up.

Since I enjoy a good tear-jerker from time to time, I did an internet search for notable movies in this genre ... and I could not help but notice that City Lights had what was considered to be one of the most touching conclusions ever. That was enough for me. I borrowed this and sat down one evening to check it out. Most of it was superior, if typical, Charlie Chaplin fare: A mix of melodrama and slapstick involving a blind waif who mistakenly believes Chaplin's tramp to be far more than what he actually is. So far, so good. BUT THEN: Along comes the very last minute of the film, and suddenly I had tears virtually SHOOTING out of my eyes, it was that sweet. The ending of this film alone is worth your time, trust me.
