I just recently got into watching Charlie Chaplin films. So far I have seen The Kid, The Gold Rush, The Circus, City Lights, and Modern Times. I enjoyed these films a good deal and discovered that Netflix has a collection his short films online. I was wondering if it was worth watching any of them and if they as good as his feature film?

I have not watched his essanay shorts, but I have watched all of his Mutual films and most of his work at Keystone.
My thoughts? I absolute;ly love most of his Mutual films, and some of his Keystone films are hidden gems, but overall are okay for 1914. A good portion of his First National films are exceptional too. I also would reccomend that you watch decent restorations/scores of his films, since most of them are in the public domain, and someone can always take the cheap way out by presenting a film with an inferior score. Remember, a silent film is only as good as the score that accompanies it...usually.

I'd say yes, they're worth it but I don't think they're as good as his features in general. My fave's Pay Day, which was his last short (1922).
I never think about the future, it comes soon enough
