It was fantastic. The orchestra and conductor were reverent to the material, even getting in slide whistles for the moments when Chaplin slurps the spaghetti. The audience was a bit more of a mix of young and old than I expected, which IMO is a testament to how timeless and universal Chaplin's appeal remains. They laughed at all the right places and gave a proper stand ovation at the end when the orchestra took its bows and especially when a portrait of Chaplin came up above them. What a way to experience it.
Also, I picked a companion who had never seen the film along with someone who, like me, thinks it's one of the best movies of all time with the undisputed greatest ending of all time. The newbie laughed profusely and balled her eyes out by the end. Pretty perfect!
