This movie + Memorial Day...

...how I wish they would play it again on Memorial Day (American holiday on the last Monday of May) like they used to! I discovered this movie on Memorial Day weekend about 15 years ago, and watch it annually ever since. Now they typically play the Earnest Borgnine version (it's on right now), but it just doesn't have the same feel as the original.

I can't get though either the original movie, or even the first few pages of the novel, without the tears flowing.

Bless all of our soldiers.

Agreed. I play this one in the video store I run each year all day on Armistice Day. For a movie that's 81 years old it still holds up, and brings tears to my eyes every time I view it.

I'm watching it this evening on YouTube -- a movie fitting for Veteran's Day
