A german before WWII 'All quiet on the western front' movie?

I recently watched "All quiet on the western front" and the movie looked really old (I assume it`s been made no later than 1940 or so..) and it was in german. Actually it was dubbed but it looked as if simultaneously and a lot of the lines were missed, so I could catch a lot of words in german. Not that I paid any attention on that but I didn`t get the impression that the actors` lips were moving as if they were speaking in english. The book has been published in 1929 and was forbidden in Germany a couple of years later - it (and its sequel - "The road back") was publically burnt in 1933. In the movie I watched the scene where Paul was shot while trying to catch a butterfly was present. I had read about that scene in the american movie but hadn`t watched it myself. So I was wondering if there is a german movie from that period or was I just watching Lewis Milestone`s movie from 1930 and it was with german dialogue for some reason? Can anyone, please, enlighten me?

There never has been a german version of the movie. In fact after a few weeks the Milestone-movie got forbidden in 1930 and hasn't really been available in Germany till 1984, when the german public broadcasting made a restored version of the film.

In the early 30s, a movie which may or may not have been German was released: 'What Now, Young Man?. It concerned a young couple in post-Great War Germany. The husband couldn't find decent work. Only 'star' i recall in the cast was Alan Mowbray, who was cast as a vain actor.

There was also a German movie called "Westfront 1918." Very similar themed as All Quiet and released in 1930 as well. It's in German and is also a very disturbing look at war and innocence lost.
