Was it written from the German point of view for the sympathy of viewer?
I had to watch this for a class today and was ammused that it was from the point of view of the german soldier. THat was very intersting...

The novel is about German soldiers, written by a German who was influenced by his own experiences in the 1st. world war at the Western front. The novel was written in the late 20ies, became a huge sucess all over the world. The book as well as the film were later banned in Nazi-Germany. The story is not about sympathy for Germans. Its an anti-war-storx, it doesn't matter where the soldiers are from.
