Robert Taylor's success as leading man in this Oscar winning Best Picture probably opened doors for spouse Barbara Stanwyck to test for early leading roles.
Una Merkel not mentioned either (she and Bessie Smith often appeared together in 1930's). Jack Benny also not mentioned.
This entry deserves a rewrite for these reasons alone, and many more. For 1929 the sound is technically superior, same goes for lighting and costumes.
