Does anyone have any info about a release date for this film? I read here that it was supposed to be released in 2006, but I dont think that happened since the only copies I could find on Amazon were for imports priced at $80. This is a crime that this film is not available. Any info anyone might have would be appreciated. Thanks.

I did some research on the "Silent Classics" series that were released on VHS so long ago. Apparently Warner Bros. owns distribution rights to MGM's movies released before a certain date. Movies like this one, The Wind, The Big Parade, Show People (I think) and others are not on DVD and probably won't be for a while. I called Warner Bros. myself one day and got the same response from several different people; "If it's not available on DVD, then it's not being made available to the public." No kidding!
I couldn't get any information about a possible release date, or if Warner Bros. was even THINKING of releasing these films because unfortunately, no one knows! I'm sure there are certain people at Warner who make decisions about which classic movies are to be released, and I don't think they're talking!
I recorded this off of TCM during the last airing. It's on my DVR and I hope to get it off and on to DVD by the end of the month! Maybe I'll have my own on DVD by March or April.
A side note, last month I saw a brand new VHS copy for sale on ebay for 17.99. I didn't buy it, thinking that similar copies would be there all the time..... I could kick myself!

The Single Standard was part of the MGM/Thames "Silent Classics" set. I believe The Kiss was too. Both are now available on DVD. This gives us some hope that maybe the other "Silent Classics" will slowly be released. Including The Crowd.
shareann, trust me this film deserves a proper release. Warner Archive are unrestored, single layer DVDRs - no better than recording from TCM, oh yeah and it costs 30 dollars

shareI purchased the French edition on DVD from Amazon. Although it is unrestored and annoyingly you can't remove the French subtitles, but the inter-titles are English, so it is still very watchable. Plus the French DVD boxset comes with photocards and in a nice package. It's worth it for £10 including delivery.
As for the Warner Archives, they are very disappointing, but I do purchase them still. I don't know why.
I have a chinese version which while it looks like crap at least you can remove the subtitles
