special edition DVD

they should make a special edition DVD of this and every other Best Picture Winner at the Oscars. That would be great

I kind of collect Best Picture winners, so that would be great, but as of now it hasn't been released at all on DVD, special edition or not. Surely enough people would be interested in seeing the first Best Picture winner to warrant a quality DVD release... (A 2-disc Criterion would be really great.)

I was surprised by this movie, some of the critics like Leonard Maltin weren't exceptionally fond of it, but I really enjoyed it. One of my favorite silent movies.

Note: The above comments are exclusively my opinion.

I collect Best Picture winners too. I went to the screening at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2003 when they restored the film. It was *FANTASTIC* all tinted, with an orchestral score and sound effects, on the big screen. I think that of all Best Picture winners, this is the one that most deserves a Special Edition DVD.

Are you listening, Paramount?

reply

But then I found out that not all of them got released on dvd-is there any where to go to ask for these to be released

That's a pirate - don't buy it. The quality is pretty terrible on those; you'll wish you still only had your fond memories.

Everyone,

Enter this page at Amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005JLB3/qid=1103844311/sr=1-10/ref=sr_1_10/102-4795318-5176129?v=glance&s=dvd

You can ask to be e-mailed when this DVD is available, and Amazon will tell Paramount how many of us are waiting for this.

The more of us ask for it, the bigger our chances to get it.

What are you waiting for? Do it.. NOW!

I don't know if any of you still check this board, but a little warning to anyone collecting Best Picture DVDs: I've heard on Amazon that the Marty DVD is missing a scene that appeared in the original movie, and the Tom Jones DVD is also missing a scene. If anyone knows any other Best Pic. DVDs like this, please add to this list.

If you go to TCM's website, search for Wings. On the right side of the screen there's something about it not being on DVD. You can click on that and add your email address. That will show you how many people have voted for it (there definitely needs to be more votes) and what the ranking is for unreleased DVDs. Wings unfortunately was pretty far down the list when added my vote.

Unfortunately, Paramount has absolutely no interest in releasing their silent films on DVD, even under pressure from the Academy to release WINGS. The chances of seeing the film on disc are slim to none, but asking Paramount could not hurt.
