Was it Mary or Sylvia? Was Mary in a relationship with both of them?

It was Sylvia. They both loved her, but she only loved David. Jack never knew Sylvia didn't love him until the very end. Mary loved Jack, but he was too smitten with Sylvia to notice.

Mirror inspector is a job I could really see myself doing.

and in real life too... Richard Arlen and Jobyna Ralston (Sylvia) married in May 1927!!
