Sreening in Rochester on Saturday February 3rd

If anyone is interested, Abel Gance's monumental epic, 'Napoléon' (1927), will be screened in Rochester New York on February 3rd (Saturday) at The Dryden Theater. The Dryden Theater is located at the historic George Eastman House (900 East Avenue). A restored 35mm print of the film will be screened at 8 PM!

I would highly recommend attending! The Dryden Theater is a haven for film lovers. Their vast collections of original prints of classic films are in, usually, pristine condition. The Dryden really is a great place, run people who truly love film.

I caught the Sunday afternoon screening. Gotta love Dryden.

Oh, yes indeed. Do you go often? The film I saw there prior to 'Napoléon' (1927) was, I believe, Louis Malle's 'Black Moon' (1975).

I really just discovered it about six months ago because of a renewed interest in classic cinema. I go about three or four times a month; not much, but I feel like I'm still "young" in my "cinema education."

Before "Napoleon," I saw "Oldboy," and before that... hrm... well, the most memorable one in 2007 was definitely "Persona." It was the first time I saw it and I was blown away.

I'm going this weekend for Harold and Maude (haven't seen) and Notorious (have seen). I see that in March and April they're planning on doing a Janus Films tribute, and The Rules of the Game is scheduled for March 17th, I believe. I can't wait for that one.

Oh my, I can't wait to see 'The Rules of the Game'... I will be attending at the end of February to see 'Citizen Kane' (1941) and 'The Goonies' (1985).

I was actually just there tonight for "Story of the Last Chrysanthemums," which was WONDERFUL. I'm also planning on seeing "Citizen Kane" - I haven't seen it in, goodness, five or six years, and I wanted to rent it again, but the chance to see it on the big screen is so much better. I bet there'll be a packed house for "Citizen Kane."

siochembio, if you liked persona, try other Bergman's films : Cries and whispers, Scenes from a marriage, Wild Strawberries (my favourite) and Fanny and Alexander (catch the longer version if you can).

Try also Fellini, my favourite director.

Citizen Kane is a classic. A must see for everyone.

Thanks for the recommendations! I plan to see as much Bergman as I can - those films are all on my list of movies to see. Unfortunately, that list is several hundred long, so I chip away at it slowly. I'm REALLY looking forward to those films that you mentioned, though.

For Fellini, I've seen "La Strada" and "Nights of Cabiria," and I thought both were fantastic. I have yet to see any of his more fantastical films, but I plan to see them soon. Right now, "La Dolce Vita" is on my hard drive on my TiVo, waiting for me to watch it.

Tonight was "Citizen Kane" on the big screen and it was GREAT!! :D
