criterion should release this

criterion has done such a good job with restorations, especially the passion of joan of arc (1928) that i think it would be justice to this movie to get the same treatment after all these years

They cannot release it in the US because of Coppola read the extensive reviews on Amazon. Brownlow has done a much more complete version but it is suppressed by Coppola and cannot be shown outside England because of threats and injunctions and his version is not even projected at the right speed. Absolutely CRIMINAL!!

please see the reviews explaining all this at:

I think Coppola needs to get the stick out of his A$$ and just put the newer, more complete restoration on the market for the sake of spreading the film in its entirity rather than go whining about it because they changed the score anf added some scenes that he may have cut.

For the Love of FILM!

What really gets me is the fact that Coppolla invested in Napoleon because he felt it was "an important film which should be seen" in bis words. Pits and pieces of it can be viewed online and I am sure that there are pirated versions but yeah Napoleon deserves a definitve DVD release
