Song over opening credits?

What's that damn song over the opening credits, it's famous, i've heard it in loads of films... for some reason it reminds me of soldiers or something, seems very fitting for a happy ending to an epic war movie where all the soldiers return home. I'm sure I've heard it loads of times I just can't think where and what the name of the song is. I'm not from the states so if it's like a USA anthem then don't flame me for not knowing it.

Can someone please help me out?

I think it was Pomp and Circumstance March #1 by Edward Elgar. It is often played at graduations and has appeared in many movies.
