The General was good, but not the best

I saw this movie today, and I thought it was pretty good. The bridge scene and the cannon scenes instantly stood out as the best gags. However, I just dont see how this is considered Buster Keaton's best movie. It wasnt even his best movie about trains. Our Hospitality was much more entertaining. Honestly, can you compare the two trains in those movies. One was a full blown steam engine, while the other looked like something out of some crazy dream.

The General is brilliant action-comedy. Is it Keaton's best? I don't know, but certainly in the top three. I've always considered Sherlock Jr. to be Keaton's masterpiece.

I agree. Sherlock Jr. is Keaton's masterpiece. His use of camera trick and acrobatics before the time of special effects is amazing!

Yeah I agree, Sherlock Jr is just completely awesome but my favorite does have to be Our Hospitality. I hope I'm not the only one who thinks maybe The General went on a bit too long? Still good, obviously but this isn't the be all and end all of Keaton, even his shorts are fantasic. I highly to the sky recommend The Boat and One Week.
