Buster Keaton

This film is an absolute gem and Buster Keaton was never better. Extraordinary physical comededian that he was, I think his actual acting abiilities are sometimes underlooked. He was wonderful in this, hugely charming in portraying the frustrated ambitious love-struck man. The fact this film is almost a century old and can be still as amusing and charming as ever is a testament to this great director and even greater star on the screen.

I could not agree more.
I just saw "The General" in a crowded theatre with live music (closing night gala for The Toronto Silent Film Festival) and nothing is better. I'm lucky that it was my third time to see it on the big screen. Yay Buster!!!!

Yes, sir, I'm going to do nothing like she's never been done before!

His acting is twice as challenging because he never allows himself to smile or laugh! Buster and Alec Guiness are my 2 favorite actors...both so versatile!
