Musical score history and issues
The music on the KINO release is credited as "Original 1927 musical setting compiled by James Bradford. Adapted and performed 1997 by Eric Beheim and the 'Cyrus West Players" and "Special contents of this edition copyright 1997 by Film Preservation Associates". One would assume that James Bradford's musical setting was compiled from Hugo Riesenfeld's original 1927 score. However the KINO website contradicts these credits by having well known silent film re-scoring composer Neil Brand listed for this release. I will say this - it certainly doesn't sound like 'Players' but rather obviously like one man with a children's Casio keyboard. One can only imagine how great the score would sound played by an ensemble of more than a single instrument.
