Amazing 1927 Special Effects
The thing that amazes me most about the film are the special effects that are seen when the robot becomes Maria. They are truly remarkable.
I have seen some science fiction films from like the 1950s that did not look half as believable, and in many those films, they show the cliche "wires" holding up models and so forth...
And yet, this silent film was made when sound films were just starting to take over the industry, and marking the end of the silent era...
The special effects still hold up very well, even with today's CGI effects.
