Film4 showing the 2010 restoration

On the 6th March 2015 Film4 will be showing the 2010 restoration of Metropolis. The only problem being that it won't be shown until 1am, which kind of disappoints me, I really want to see this version of the film but there's no way I will be able to stay up to gone 3am to watch it.

But I thought I'd let those who do have the will power to stay up that late and who want to see this version of the film.

I'm watching it right now on Film4. Never seen it before. It's quite impressive from a visual perspective, considering it was made in 1927. You can easily see how it influenced sci fi flicks, from more recent times.

You can also see how Health and Safety on film sets wasn't a thing back then. Can't believe the things the director had the extras doing, lol.

I completely forgot it was on, I woke up last night not feeling well and could've end up watching it. So much for me putting the message up on here telling people it was on :-).

Health and Safety was never an issue back in the silent era of films. Harold Lloyd was always putting himself in serious danger. He blew off two of his fingers when a prop bomb went off in his hand. He also did some of the most crazy stunts ever committed to film. The iconic scene in Safety Last where he hangs from the hands of a clock tower with out any safety ropes or net stands out as one of the craziest.

I recorded it last night and watched the first hour this morning and noticed a few new scenes. Came on here to find out the differences between the 2 most recent restorations and found this epic linkhttp://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=111819, quiet fitting for the film. Looking forward to watching the rest tonight.

That's really interesting thanks for sharing. I watched a guy review the 2010 restoration Blu-ray on YouTube. It pretty amazing how the film came to be in it's current form, when it was considered lost for decades never to be seen again.

Here's his video if anybody's interested in hearing his detailed take on the Blu-ray and the film in general: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2M5kiSMtps

I just watched the film on TCM,and the running time was 2 hrs 41 min.I noticed some new scenes that were not clear like the rest of the movie, but grainy. The first sci-fi blockbuster,in my books, cutting edge filming techniques, special effects and a huge cast, all very special for the time period.

Film4 will be re-showing the 2010 restoration on Tuesday 27 September 2016 (0.55 - 03.55).

Another late, late show for those without recorders.

I've seen this version before, but will be watching again. The added Thin Man sequences are just wonderful and provide an extra, darker dimension to the story-line.

Yep, I saw the advert. Something to do with a Tim Burton season. Checked Film4's site, saw the time and thought nope. I really need to get a recorder which allows me to set a timer.

It's actually a Weird & Wonderful season on Film4, whatever that means.

I'll be recording the film this time since the scheduled time is just ridiculous. I guess the powers that be must reckon that broadcasting Metropolis at an earlier time will not attract a large audience. Everyone should see this film. It deserves better. However, I suppose we should be grateful that the film is being shown on TV at all. So, for that, thank you Film4.

Yeah it's call they are showing it at all. I've seen the edited version of the film. Strangely enough that came from some strange satellite channel, which was showing it at 11:00. You'd think for a channel that is dedicated to films, it being silent wouldn't be a problem.
