TCM Version On YouTube

I am not sure if this is old news or new, but I wanted to pass it on.

I took a chance and put Erich Von Stroheim into the YouTube search engine. I came up with a few selections, and then was shocked to find that someone named filmfanatic99 has posted THE ENTIRE Turner Classic Movie restoration online!! Now regrettably, the movie is in nearly 30 chapters of approximately 7 to 9 minutes each segment; the quality is sometimes iffy; and there are German subtitles at the bottom of the screen (although thankfully I can ignore them and they don't interfere with the English title cards). More importantly, I have no idea how long this will be on YouTube when one considers copyrights (it was uploaded about 2 weeks ago), so take advantage of it while you can.

I am just about to start chapter 13 (which should be Mac and Trina's wedding), and I'm going to finish it to the end as time permits. I've also bookmarked the chapters so that I can (hopefully) find them later. But I wanted to pass the information on to any of you 'Greed' fans, who -- like me -- wait impatiently for a DVD release. And watching it again, even on YouTube, makes me realize what a great motion picture this is, just as I thought it was the first time I saw the two hour version on VHS.

You can find chapter 1 under http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdKOEHfxCVQ. The other chapters can be easily linked from there.

Enjoy!

That's wonderful - thanks for telling, Tina!

You are very, very welcome BlueGreen! It was my pleasure to pass on the information to people who love 'Greed' as much as I.

And I'm sorry I'm just now replying to your message. It's been a long couple of months and while I'm on vacation, I'm playing a lot of catch-up...which also includes watching some old movies I've never seen before. (And that includes flicks in the new Murnau, Borzage, Fox collection).

So many thanks ! It's wonderful !

I'm so glad somebody put it up. I can never find it anywhere else, and I don't have TCM at the moment so I wouldn't be able to see it there.

It seems that the YouTube version was recorded from the French / German TV channel Arte (you can see their logo on the picture). That explains the German subtitles (the same version must exist with French subtitles because Arte broadcasts in both languages).

If anyone uses torrents you can find the full 4 hour version there. It's the same as the youtube one, but strung together and not in segments.

Thanks for announcing its presence, I was dispairing that I would ever see this film.
