To be shown on TCM 8:30am Sept 22 2010

Now I'm hoping no major celebrity dies on 9/21 so TCM would preempt "Greed" with a day-long retrospective.

The restored version of "Greed", along with other great MGM silents like "The Crowd" and "The Wind", are taking forever to come out on DVD, and TCM showings of them have been rarer and rarer.

Hey, I have a theory. Read the link below.

If the December release date talked about is true, then prehaps when they air Greed on Sept 22nd, they may announce the DVD/Blu-ray??? Just a theory. I mean it is TCM supposedly releasing it.

That would be great news if confirmed.

The closest Greed got the DVD release was back in 2004, when Warner and TCM did a poll called "DVD Decision 2004" and asked viewers to vote for the top 5 titles to be released on DVD. Greed was among the 20 or so titles, and I thought it was a shoo-in since the concensus among movie lovers was that it was an eagerly awaited release. Alas, the viewers picked Ivanhoe, Random Harvest, The Letter, Ice Station Zebra, and King Solomon's Mines. Greed was sadly nowhere near the top vote getters (I believe it ranked 11).

I just wanted to say thank you so much for posting this! After reading Norris' novel, I've wanted to see this movie for a really long time! I had forgotten about it since I don't have a VCR anymore and it looks like the tape costs about $100, but I just happened to see your post tonight :) Thanks again!

You're welcome. You can have TCM send you email reminders for the showing :)

It's worth noting that "Greed" will be on at 5:30 AM PST for those on the West Coast of the US.

It is seldom that these completely restored silent films are shown anywhere and even less often now that TCM has adjusted their daily format / schedule moving on up into the 1970s ...

If you should ever have the opportunity to see this fine film, as it was run earlier this day, and you are appreciative of silent films, then you will want to take the time to see this almost 3-hour marvel ...

We had the great fortune to speak with Miss ZaSu Pitts about this film, many years ago, at which time her eyes lit up as they did and she had much to say about every aspect of the entire production.

I've wanted to view this movie for years. Unfortunately, I was unable to watch it today on TCM. Did anone out there record it and would be agreeable to share a copy?
