I thought this was a great movie!

Many but not all I am sure agree with me. Last night I came across a copy that I had forgotten about. It was the shorter TCM version so I watched it. It was magnificient. TCM always does a great job with musical background for these silent movies. I am looking forward to another chance at seeing the longer version when TCM shows it again which I hope is very soon. TCM is good at adding lost footages in a narrative syle. We are fortunate to have TCM and those that work to get these movies restored as best they can.

I thought it was pretty good too.The scenes of anger, rage, and really good close-ups were different than any silent, I've seen.I did find the "greed" in this over the top melodrama, though.Nice to see a cat,in close ups,as well as the canaries.

Greed is an amazing movie. Watched it last night and I'm so glad TCM has showed so many of the great silent films recently. What is sad is I don't think I could have appreciated this film a few years ago because of previous prejudice that silent is boring which many people have now
Personally I rank this in my top 50 all time

I agree that this is a great movie but I don't think it needed to be quite so long to make the same point. An hour and a half should have been plenty. I cannot imagine what the director was thinking, making a four and half hour movie especially when this shorter version was an uncommonly long length for the time. I know other story lines were added but they were, obviously, completely unnecessary. The message, greed, came across loud and clear; we got it from the title.

I also think TCM is great and does a wonderful job preserving older movies and presenting them for our enjoyment.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

You should definitely try and see the theatrical, 2-hour long version. The pace and story are just right.

That is a masterpiece of understatement.
