I like this better than 'The General'

Don't get me wrong, I liked "The General" well enough, but it seemed overlong and just wasn't as all-out entertaining and fluid and poetic as "Sherlock Jr." Like, with The General I had to sort of work to enjoy it, and tell myself that for the context of the time, it was brilliant. But I can just watch Sherlock Jr. without altering my mindset; it just seems more timeless.

Either way, Buster Keaton was a genius.

I agree completely. This is far superior to The General. I haven't seen much Keaton, but this is my favorite thus far.

Ditto. Saw The General in a theater at school (strange...there were about two people in that theater under 50, myself included, and the old people kept conversing out loud as the film played...annoyed me) and I liked it, but I thought Chaplin's best was better.

I have just seen Sherlock Jr., and it was amazing. I think I'll watch it again. It was both funny and jaw dropping. I don't know if I can still say Chaplin was better.

I like it better than The General too but they're both brilliant works.

I love this film.
I didn't care for the General I found it boring.
This film is a masterpiece in the art of film making,
and it's funny and original.

Both films are among the most original and creative I've ever seen. I'm with the majority, though, in loving Sherlock Jr. a little more than The General.

I go with The General over Sherlock Jr. which is clearly the funniest movie Buster ever did. I appreciate The General for:

1) The gags are done in slower process to maximize the tension of the chase. Although it may seem slow by today standards but there is incredible tension with the railroad chases.
2) The tinted copy is looks and feels more like the Civil War more than movie ever made.

Me too. I think that The General is more heartfelt overall, but the final scene in Sherlock, Jr. (in which Sherlock looks to the leading man of the movie he's projecting to find out how to make up with his girlfriend) touched me more than any scene in The General.

I find Sherlock funnier, too. I was in stitches for almost the whole running time.

And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
