help - looking for a copy WITHOUT the club foot orchestra

I can't stand that godawful soundtrack that seems to be the standard wherever you look. I'd like to try to find a simple, melodic, appropriate piano-scored version of "Sherlock, Jr." in circulation without having to listen to the one with Club Foot. It's all right in scenes such as the pool table, etc., but when they bust out the James Bond, I want to split my own head with a straight-razor.

Any links (it's public domain, correct?), advice, etc., would be helpful - haven't looked too closely but it seems that the Club Foot is the standard.

Kino recently put out an HD version with "Three Ages" that doesn't have the ClubFoot abomination.

The one from "The Art of Buster Keaton" set has the Club Foot and the James Bond was a bit much. In several places I found the music distracting from the movie.

Oh I agree. Most of the music was tolerable or barely tolerable; I even liked the slide dobro. But when they broke into the 60s Spy Movie crap, I was distracted and annoyed. The synth sound effects were annoying too. (A noise not possible in 1924)

Typical Hollywood, somebody thought they were being clever. At least the movie wasn't colorized.

Just watched this last night with the Club Foot music and completely agree -- it was awful and distracting. Just an old-time piano, properly played, would be enough.

It was pretty bad, but it didn't bother me as much as it did my mom. Every few minutes she would go "Who DID this music?! It's AWFUL!"

Caught this movie on TCM tonight (11/9/14) and it had a beautiful score--definitely not the one mentioned in this thread.

So...I just did a little research. The version shown on TCM tonight featured the score by the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra. The latest Kino Blu-ray/DVD release (2010) features the ability to select either the Club Foot score or the wonderful Mont Alto score.

I used to have an old recorded version on VHS that had played on TCM. I totally loved the music on that one. I think it was by Vince Giordano and his Nighthawks orchestra or something like that. But believe me I have searched for that copy and it is nowhere to be found.
