lol, my thoughts exactly! when we are first introduced to this character and first see him in the midium shot - he is Michael Jackson EXACTLY, even the nose lol, I thought I was the only one who noticed that :)

Tim Burton has said himself that Edward was based on Robert Smith of The Cure.

Edward Scissorhands. Absolutely. Maybe it wasn't Tim Burton's initial intention but Johnny Depp definitely got inspired by Conrad Veidt's portrayal of Cesare. The facial expressions and the movements are simply identical, even the stories are a bit similar.
