I came here to ask the same. I heard the song today and when he sang that part, I thought WTF?
The song could have easily been changed for a man.
He did not write the song.
Tracy Chapman wrote it back in 1988.
I am surprised that people don't know this.
We do know that was her one-hit-wonder song and that this is a cover which is why it makes no sense he didn’t change the lyrics to fit his being a guy.
Was he afraid he’d be slammed for gender appropriation?
His not doing it ruins an otherwise good cover.
