whats a martial art champion?

Her bio says she is a martial art champion? Apparently she did karate in high school and some competitions.
But do anyone know more about this background? Did seh do the karate equivalent of ballet, i.e. Shotokan, or some more serious styles like Goju-ruy / Kyokushinkai? Not to bad mouth shotokan, but I hardly consider it a martial art. Its more like form walking than actual fighting.

I was trying to look info of that, but never saw pictures of videos of her. I could find and try again to look what seemed to be her school or something alike.

Also, what do you think of Moo Duk Kwan Tae Kwon Do under the World Taekwondo Federation?

Here is some info:

She also was part of a musical group in college.

Plus it seems she has a degree in sociology.

She is a brown belt

Ah know I see what thread you were referring to.
Completely forgot it.
Kyokushin I can see as a valid martial arts. Funny thing though, I would not call a person who won a kata contest (i.e. form dancing) a martial arts champion. These titles always blow stuff out of proportion. She is/was a successful practioner and contest winner.
A martial arts champion is, imho, a person who actually competes in various tournaments, events and wins a large portion of them.

But this does not mean that I do not respect her achievements. But I respect them as much as I respect the ones by the likes of Jet Li and Jackie Chan, who are more gymnasts and dancers than they are martial artists.

Can you further explain this? From what I understand her style is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqPxDr4J4iA&t=0s which many keep saying it is too rough; and it seems she stopped at brown belt... not sure how much that speaks of her; like said, some things are blown out of proportion.

In the brown belt link she recoginzes she was somewhat rusty on her martial art, and of course only learned some kendo to prepare herself for the role; not unlike most celebrities who only do some bit of training to get into a role.

Like you say, not to take away her achievements but wish there was more info of her doing martial arts, while oddly there is more of her singing.

Also you never told me about Moo Duk Kwan.

which many keep saying it is too rough

Do they mean the style is too rough, or her style is too rough? Cause Kyokushin is while rough, one of the most efficent (single styles) in full contact martial arts. Its in the same league as Muay Thai and is used by many champions in the highest leagues (i.e. Kq for example).

and it seems she stopped at brown belt.

actually many people stop Kyokushin at brown belt because after that you have (at least in most of the the parent organizations) to take part in full contact tournaments. I reckon (don´t mean to sound chauvinistic) that a cute girl is not very interested in fighting full contact.

but wish there was more info of her doing martial arts

I reckon that the "martial arts champion"-info is more of a publicity stunt to give some credit to her "martial arts" roles. Many teens seem to tend to believe that the actor portraying the character has to be a legit badass.

Yes I mean Kyokushin style itself is rough; and guess that is why she left it. Maybe not interested in competition. Like you say, publicity blown out of proportion.

But what can you tell me on Moo Duk Kwan Tae Kwon Do on both the ITF and WTF ways?

Basically nothing. I draw most of my martial arts knowledge out of my own experience. I trained kyokushinkai, Goju ryu and muay boran. And was a sensei in a kyokushinkai dojo. Besides that my knowledge is rather limited to be honest.

Well thanks anyway.

What about Rina Takeda? Is she legit, it is also the same style but she is a black belt.

reply

I have just been told that at her instagram it says she is training for her black belt.
