How many have to die for American hegemony? China would never invade Taiwan if the US were not challenging it and arming Taiwan - like Taiwan can resist China. But I seriously doubt China will invade Taiwan.

They look primed to invade. Like with Ukraine…Washington fighting to the last Ukrainian would love to fight to the last Taiwanese…But circumstances are different. Washington can’t afford to lose Taiwan so it may have to get involved directly. That move could set up an apocalyptic clash…perhaps bigger than WWII battles.
The US military has been losing its edge vis a vis China and it has lately become more preoccupied with being woke than actual training…particularly the Navy…suffering from some high profile accidents due to incompetence and subpar training of its sailors.
This looming war has all the hallmarks of a Thucydides Trap; when an emerging power threatens to displace an existing great power as a regional or international hegemon. It would alter the global geopolitical landscape in profound ways.
Even if China invades Taiwan, the US needs to butt out because there is really nothing we can do about it but let it get destroyed as Ukraine is being destroyed - not to mention touch of a massive world war. We can set courses on our aircraft carriers and they will all sit at the bottom of the ocean because all of us have hypersonic missiles that cannot be stopped. A lucky shot might take one attack out, but a burst of several hypersonic missiles would be impossible to stop.
You said it will alter the global landscape, but that is exactly what the US has been doing, with extreme violence and to the detriment of the people who live in all the countries we supposedly "own". We spend most of our money to feed gasoline to a global empire machine that creates little zones of denial, but massive entropy outside of those zones.
You also said Washington cannot afford to lose Taiwan, but the only way the US survives at this point as a world hegemon is to get support from the rest of the world, and the polls today show that most of the people in the world, when polled, say that the US is the country they most fear. They see through our propaganda, and cannot help but notice our toxic society, and ignorant, sick population.
Not only that, but in the West, Americans are the move exploited, with the least benefits, lowest lifespan, no Universal Health Care, no Free Education. We are totally screwing up, and yet we keep doubling down on stupid, where both parties are complicit in this because they both are funded and directed by massive money.

Ukraine is going to fall. I saw the map of Ukraine in 1922. It was a tiny little place, about 5% of the area it is today. Modern day Ukraine includes Russian areas like the so-called land bridge across the Black Sea to Odessa that used to belong to Russia. I think by next Spring and probably before the end of next year Russian will have absorbed all of that and reduced Ukraine to a landlocked mess that the US will not be able to load and aim again at Russia.
Companies work best for the people when there is competition, and I think this is true with the international community of nations as well. We in the US have to find a way to survive without being a feared international predator nation.
I don't agree with China taking Taiwan. There is no civil war going on in Taiwan, and currently Taiwan and China do huge trade with each other. I would prefer that Taiwan decide its own fate because it is a totally different situation and history than Ukraine.
But it is also important that what the US has been doing in the last hundred years in the world be transparent and understood. All the nations in the world need to start adhering to civilized rule of law. The US has no right to stand in judgement of Russia or China. I honestly wish we did - because that is how I was raised and taught and it sucks to find out how much BS that is.
China can have Taiwan for all I care. There's no good reason for the U.S. to get involved in a war and send hundreds of thousands of young men over there to get killed and crippled.
