Griner in 2015 was arrested for domestic violence against her pregnant "wife" then suspended from the league. She beat a pregnant woman.

Now she's arrested in Russia for drug smuggling.

And Miss Thaaang had the gall to kneel during the national anthem?

Will they please just keep this creature in the Gulag, or use her as cannon fodder in the war with Ukraine?

I'd say the American government should do what it can to help its citizens who are arrested overseas - if the charges are ones which would be legal in the U.S. But our federal government still imprisons our own citizens for possession of marijuana, and carrying it over state lines. We're in no position to tell the Russians they can't do the same.

Plus, why extend the effort for a profligate who doesn't respect her nation's own anthem and flag? And she's a wife beater. Not a good person. She's just another self-entitled celebrity who believes she is above the law.

I disagree- we get in a lot of trouble judging other civilizations as compared to our own. We as Americans need to accept that other lands have different laws and we need to find some respect for them.

agree with the rest, but I'm not certain her mixed feelings and dearth of respect should be considered in the matter. I don't know that it shouldn't be either though.

I'd say the American government should do what it can to help its citizens who are arrested overseas - if the charges are ones which would be legal in the U.S.

I would limit it to political prisoners and pows. Like if Griner worked for a local newspaper and got arrested for publishing a piece critical of the government and got arrested for it. Or if she was a soldier we sent and got captured. In that case, we would have a responsibility to get her back since we sent her.

Other than that, Americans that go to other countries need to respect the laws over there, even if they are different from ours.
