Alas, it looks like City are going to do the treble. 😞

*Even (maybe *especially*) if we're Scousers.

reply

I want both teams to lose today, but I really, really, really, really want Man City to lose the Champions League final.

reply

100% agreed. Out of the three cups, the CL is the won I'd most like to see City lose (even if they have to win the other two, and obvs they've already got one, and are halfway there to the other), but how likely is that? After beating Real Madrid, something my team failed to two in successive Champions Leagues, how much of a challenge will Inter be?

reply

I'm hoping Inter park the bus and frustrate City and get them on counter attack. I'm pretty much guaranteeing City will win, but I hope I'm wrong. I think parking the bus is the only way for Inter to stand a chance.

Um. No.

Never.

Although neither scenario is good, I would far prefer Manchester City to win their meaningless treble than have Manchester United win a single thing. Aside from anything else, it'll take some of the shine off '99.

I want Manchester United to win nothing ever. Whoever the opposition may be.

^ This.

Man City are the Lance Armstrong financial doping cheats of European football. Whatever they win is completely meaningless and devoid of merit.

Therefore I'd far rather see United win.

"Aside from anything else, it'll take some of the shine off '99."

Good point, but, alas, I doubt the media and football establishment feel the same way (at least not to the extent that they'd ever share those thoughts in public) about how meaningless City's potential treble is.

In theory, I like and agree with where you're coming from, but the reality is that many people will regard this as a legitimate win for City, and history won't come with an asterisk besides their, likely, treble.

reply

The legitimacy or otherwise of the treble isn't really the main point. City fans will enjoy it either way and the rest of us will shrug.

The main point is that there are literally no circumstances under which Liverpool fans should want Manchester United to win a trophy. The idea of siding with Manchester United over (even lottery-winning, oil-rich) Manchester City is absurd to me.

Already does. Don't forget that although they bought themselves out of an outright Champions League ban, they nonetheless were found guilty of breaking financial rules and fined €10m. Therefore all their subsequent "legally gained" revenue via the CL comes as a result of that found guilty of cheating verdict not being enforced.

And that's before even considering the current Premier League investigation of over one hundred breaks of financial fair play rules...

Of all the teams since the CL quarter finals, Inter is the most likely to beat City. Inter can do it. If Pep does not overthink himself into snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, though, the CL trophy will be his 3rd as a manager, and he will overtake Fergie in that respect.
