Correspondant's Dinner

Way to strike a blow for feminism by proving that comedy is better left to the guys. I haven't seen someone bomb like that since Cambodia. Someone was booing and yelling for them to get the chick off the stage. It was Marilyn Frye.

BTW, that is actually coming from a fan of Cecily's.

I thought her material was consistently good. Would have been better to cut the dating congressman bit and the repeat of the Indiana anti gay jokes (that Obama did better). But it was a tough crowd. And she didn't bomb like the talk soup guy did last year. Props to her for sticking with it.

I had a great time listening to what Cecily had to say and pretty much had a permanent smile on my face the whole time. I wouldn't expect the audience at the dinner to like her jokes but I think ordinary Americans watching on television probably had a good time.

Go Cecily!!!

I know it's a tough crowd. But I've done standup and she just wasn't very good. The earlier stuff went better but she started repeating the same points over and over. She could have cut a good chunk off the set and she seemed to really struggle about half way through. It seemed to completely lose focus. And the bit about the hunky congressman was just weak. Whenever someone goes to projections or video during the dinner it's dicey at best. You have to be absolutely dead certain that the material is going to kill or you're better off skipping it entirely. Because, like Cecily found out, if the first image comes off weakly, you are pretty much married to the rest of the bit anyway and it's going to be painful.

I didn't think she was very funny, she indeed repeated herself, and.....her false eyelashes looked RIDICULOUS.
