tarZAN

Before seeing her on TCM I've never heard anyone pronounce Tarzan the same way as Shazam. No one puts the emphasis on the second syllable. If she's going to discuss movies, maybe she should first learn how to pronounce names of well known characters.

The odd thing is she pronounced it correctly during the intro to Tarzan, the Ape Man, but during her discussion after the ending, the pronounced it incorrectly over and over.

Maybe she should make up her mind. Pronouncing it wrong is bad enough, but pronouncing it two different ways, during the same discussion as if it was normal, is simply weird. She went back and forth between TAR-zan and tar-ZAN.

She has a somewhat unusual accent. But you're right--no matter how you're going to pronounce something, settle on one way and stick to it.

As far as Tarzan is concerned, it seems most people say "TAR-zan". My mom always said "TAR-z'n", running the z and n together without the a. Maureen O'Sullivan said "TAH-z'n". I wonder how Edgar Rice Burroughs pronounced it.
