Why'd she change her last name?

I know what u mean but it gets her a better chance at auditions and helps avoid being typecasted. But don't hate her too much. She has to get herself established.

Yeah, probably so she won't be typecasted. I was wondering the same thing. If my first name was Shanaylaqueria, I probably would change it for showbiz haha

Uh, she is white. And Asian.

Maybe her parents are split and she took mom's name? Maybe she's tired of 'Wang' jokes?

I don't think I've heard anyone make a "Wang" joke since 6th Grade.

She's not marketing herself as Asian. She's putting herself out there as white.

Every woman with the last name "Wang" has probably wanted to change her name at some point just to get away from the jokes and comments. I went to college with a girl whose last name was "Cockburn". I don't think a day went by that she didn't hear something about it.

For whatever it's worth, Chloé Wang is half-Caucasian (mother Stephanie), and half-Chinese (father Bennet Wang).

So she is still using her father’s name as her stage name, just not his surname. (She also dropped the accent mark in her French given name.) It’s not her fault that this stuff still matters, if you want to start a career in the United States, nor is it her job to fix it.

Apparently, before the name change, she only got called for auditions when the part was identified as Asian, but she does not Asian enough to be cast in said roles. The same was true for Meg Tilly (born Margaret Chan).
