Why didn't Ecuador bring Assange to their country years ago?

Before he offended them with his bad housekeeping and lax pet care, why didn't they just take him out of the embassy in a diplomatic vehicle and fly him to Ecuador and let him live there?

I don´t think it works like that. If he had walked out of the embassy back then, he would have been fair game.

Because the USA does not pay any respect to diplomatic vehicles. I remember they even forced down the Bolivian Presidents plane thinking Snowden was inside.

The British would have stopped them. I am sure they thought of it, but everything going in or out of the embassy would be searched.
