Enough with the "she looks like.." threads.

She is unique. I have never heard of her before, five minutes ago. And I think she is absolutely gorgeous.

My goodness!

I couldn't agree more. I am SO sick of "She looks like..." threads. I refuse to ever open another one.

She looks like Erin Moriarty.

Do people have such a high level of facial blindness that they can only relate to an actress by someone they remember? Weird, lame and annoying.

reply

She looks like Anna Paquin

The thing that really makes me laugh at those 'looks like' threads is that, between all of them, they suggest so many that look nothing alike each other, yet they somehow all look like the one person in question.
That's all the proof you need to show that they don't look like anyone but themselves. At best they may share some similar features, nothing more.

I really like "Looks Like" threads.
It is a feature of human brain to explore and find relations.

I just don't understand why some people (obviously the OP and the poster after) thinks that this is offending for that person.

And it's not only for persons, but also for things, places, tastes and smells. Pretty much everything.

I definitely don't consider them offensive, and nobody has any business being offended for anyone but themselves, but I do wonder what people are looking at when they suggest a name. Is it just a similar feature(s) or do they really think that they look similar overall? To me, 'looks like' means that at a quick glance you wouldn't be able to tell the difference, or whatever the situation is. For food you wouldn't be able to taste or smell the difference.

I do agree with your last line but isn't that more like it's reminding you of that other thing/person, rather than it being similar enough to be like it? If that makes sense.

Don't know why but my mind went to Kevin Kline in the movie "A Fish Called Wanda".
I watched at a (full as I recall) cinema back in 1988.

Literally EVERYONE was talking about the similarity of Kevin Kline with the late Errol Flynn. I mean everyone. In the long line outside after the end of the movie no one was talking about the (fairly complicated and funny) movie but how much Kline looked like Flynn.

It is in the Human Nature (Brain) to do that.

Kline got to play Errol Flynn in The Last Of Robin Hood as well.
Yeah, they are definitely look-a-likes, especially when both have the same style of 'tache.
It's not so much that look-a-likes don't exist for me, I have seen a couple of very close ones in real life, or that the brain doesn't make that connection you mention. It's more that those types of threads seem very prevalent on IMDB to the point where you have to wonder what people are seeing. You get several names mentioned that clearly look nothing like each other, yet somehow that all look like the 'target' person.

Well, I started a few "100 things I learned from..." threads here and there!

Also, just a minute ago I "deleted my post" Combra (1986) style!

Like the "Looks like..." threads, they are part of imdb's tradition!
