Kamala Harris continues to LIE about the failed Senate border bill, which did nothing to secure the border
The Senate bill—the Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024—did nothing to secure the border. The Senate bill would have codified President Biden’s and the now-impeached Homeland Security Secretary DHS Secretary Mayorkas’s open-border tools in statute. These measures would not only have continued the border crisis but would also have made it more difficult for any future enforcement-minded President to fix it.
It was a 380 page bill that three Senators secretly negotiated for weeks with the Biden Administration. It would have made "catch and release" a federal law. Up to 5,000 illegals could continue to walk in every day. That's over 1.8 million per year or 7.2 million over four years. That does not include millions of "got-aways" - those who were not caught. Current law mandates detention for any alien who illegally enters the U.S. while pursuing asylum protection.
Tens of billions of dollars would be given to sanctuary cities and states and to Democrat sponsored Nongovernmental Organizations that have been facilitating mass illegal immigration.
It would have expanded and codified the now-impeached Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’s mass parole abuse. It would continue to encourage asylum fraud.
In violation of the Homeland Security Act and section 103 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, Secretary Mayorkas finalized a rule in which he removed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) attorneys and immigration judges from credible fear asylum cases. He replaced them with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) asylum officers reviewing their fellow asylum officers, resulting in rubber stamping grants of asylum.
Continuing to allow these crisis-level numbers of illegal-alien encounters means that border agents would remain overwhelmed and millions more illegal crossers would evade the agents—turning into “got-aways”—and bad actors would slip thorough limited and rushed vetting.
It would have provided work permits and a path to citizenship to ALL illegals. Taxpayer-funded free lawyers would be provided to illegals.
The Heritage Foundation prepared a good report explaining the lunacy of the Democrats' border bill that was defeated, with Donald Trump's urging.
