One of those clickbait articles said that she never got over GOT ...

What could that possibly mean?

Did the role of Khalissi have a negative effect on her?

I have often wondered if people who have to play certain roles retain
feelings about that role or the things they did, or take on some kind
of responsibility or resonance with that role.

Does it mean that being an actor can be harmful to your health or
mess with your mind and soul?

Or, were the other actors jealous of her, or treat her badly?

I read something that supposedly was her talking about how devastated she was by the final season and what they did with Daenerys' character. And yes actors can and do identify with their characters even to the extent of in a way becoming that person.

So Emilia had perhaps to some extent become the kindly Daenerys who wanted to free all the slaves and make the world a better place. And then the writers turned her into a murderous tyrant, a Hitler in a word and she was badly affected by it. According to the article I read she walked out of her house and wandered about in a daze for hours thinking to herself "How can I do this?" Believe it or not.

Yeah, that makes sense. No one liked or bought into what they did with Dani in GOT ... they really fucked it over big time making the whole show kind of iffy and marginal to watch or recommend.

Probably as simple as something like she was very utterly disappointed by how her character went out; and that disappointment can have lasting negative effect on someone (even as far as leading to mild depression or grief).

Think about this many show watchers were so utterly devastated by that last season even a year later it still stings. And for the audience this was just something that ate up an hour or so a week for about 3 months out of the year. For Emilia Clark this was literally a 10 year investment; that is a lifetime almost and to see it go down in flames like it did could be cause for a long term sadness or bitterness.

That is exactly what I was thinking of ... and that is just fans. Imagine her feeling about identifying with that character and thinking the show was leading to something more, and then the disappointment. I agree with you. I am just trying to get at how it works. No actors have really talked about this that I have ever heard, it is kind of personal, and I think it is not something people want to have to worry about with their favorite actors.

She will be alright I think; disappointment can be a haunting thing. But many of her fans really give her a lot of support and wished better for her character. Almost no fans blame the actors or production crew; both of them did an utterly amazing job. It is the show runners (who wrote this garbage last season) that most people have venomous words for; myself include. D & D are fucking morons. the show's hard working actors and crew deserved so much better than this.

great thread.

i for one can see where the direction an actor's character takes could definitely affect the person in real life. heck, i was just a viewer of the show and still have trouble letting it go, so i can imagine that's way tougher for a cast member. i bet that the way they imagine it all in their heads actually takes them into that world, and sometimes maybe they have a desire to stay there. maybe? dunno, but i could see it happening. as a writer i struggle with the same thing myself, so i imagine it's not much different for actors.
