why such an unflattering photo of her on the cover of Vanity Fair?

I mean, I suppose I am wondering why 1) they chose to go in the direction of making her look so dorky, and 2) she agreed to it.

Yeah, you need to scroll down there for the cover photo.

Hardly something that would sell more magazines.

I didn't even recognize her at first (I subscribe to the magazine).

True. Theres many, many more beautiful picture of her than that.
