Is he gay?

Don't go nuts profession offence takers, it's just a question.

I tend to fall for gay guys, Ben Whishaw being the last.

No he isn't. He has a girlfriend

I thought he was gay, but in an interview he did to promote "Life in Squares" he self-identifies as a straight man. Still, he has tremendous chemistry with his male co-stars ("bromances") and plays a lot of gay roles...so...who knows?

Thanks for answering without having a go at me & he does have great chemistry with male co-stars. My crush can continue then.

I wonder who his girlfriend is, lucky lady hehe.

It was Eleanor Wylde, who starred with him in Bonobo. Don't know if they are still together. He's managed to keep his romantic life very private.

No, I don't think he's gay. He said in an earlier interview that he was a very competetive guy to the point where he almost 'broke up with his girlfriend over a board game.' He also mentioned that he attended the premier of a film he did (Bonobo?) where there was an explicit sex scene he did with an actress who became his girlfriend and they both snuck out of the showing early because his parents were in attendance and he did not want to face them. The gay scenes I saw in LI4S had very little affections, very little to no kissing and if what there showed there was no open mouthed. So I hardly think that he's gay.

What are the 'lot of' gay roles he's played? Having a lot of chemistry with someone doesn't denote sexual attraction. It just means that you get along with someone due to temperment, commonalities etc.. And if there is one thing I've noticed about James Norton is that he comes across as being very pleasant and the kind of guy who makes friends easily.

Thanks for the info. He has tremendous chemistry with Robson Green in Grantchester. Check out the two of them in the Jazz Club sequence etc. Also, I saw some scenes he did with actor Ben Lloyd-Hughes where James plays Benjamin Britten's lover (in a movie yet to be made.) Whoa! Frankly, if he's going to take roles like that, it's fun to keep fans guessing. And I'm a fan of his, whether he's gray or not.

I don't see any sort of sexual chemistry with Robson Green in Grantchester. Any sort of affection between them is purely collegial or fraternal. Further an actors decision to take a role doesn't mean that it has some bearing on his or her private life of personality. It usually just means that they are interested in the story and the character. I mean he plays a psychopath in Happy Valley, are you going to insist that Norton is a rapist and a murderer in his real life as well? I hope not!

I just read an interview with James where he states that he is more interested in a well written piece than just running off to Hollywood and doing a block buster which would make him a ton of money.

If James just stuck to roles that were close to his personality and played nice guys like Sidney Chambers in Grantchester or Henry Alveston in Death Comes To Pemberley. Then his career would be a pretty boring and he wouldn't get nominated for BAFTA's or be under consideration for other more richer roles.
