Sarah Snook Reveals An Early Casting Agent Told Her:”You’re A Nobody”

Sarah Snook is on the crest of a wave, having just collected her second Golden Globe award for her role of Shiv in Succession, but the Australian star reveals that, as an actress starting out, she was treated very badly by both a casting agent and a producer.

Snook told The Times newspaper that, on one of her very first films, she was told by a casting agent that they didn’t want her “because you’re a nobody,” but the director and writer were pushing for her. She was told: “What we’ll do is change all of you so that you’re marketable: we’ll whiten your teeth, darken your hair, we’ll give you a personal trainer so you can lose weight and look the part.”

On the same project, Snook revealed that she ate a small piece of cake, and a producer told her off in front of cast and crew, while a costume designer told her to keep eating. “And all the while I am dying inside.”

Snook played Shiv Roy, Logan Roy’s complex daughter, over four seasons of Succession and she told the newspaper that she wept when the finale aired in May 2023.

“I was three or four weeks postpartum, the hormones were raging. But it was just the chrysalis of knowing that’s the end of this really important, special part of my life.”

They told her correct.

Every time those actors run to media to whine: "Poor us, whah whah. We were told by evil peopoe in the industry that we were not pretty and hot enough. But here we are, getting awards! So they were wrong. Don't listen to them, new actors. Be yourself, ignore and you will get awards and millions".

While ignoring that fact that on every "ugly duck who made it" - there are thousands that didn't. Because competition is crazy and many actors audition their whole life and never get anything good.
So when people who are in industry many years tell you that you have better chances by working on yourself and looking better - thy are correct and mean well. Specially when it's your agents.

Ordinary looking actors like Sarah Snook can only be successful for short time if they would be lucky to get into successful tv show. You don't have to be hottest looking on tv show.

Sarah Snook did not had a good career before she was lucky with that Succession. And it feels like that show was more hyped by press then actual people watched it. She was 31 when she got that role. Her other roles were small roles is small of forgettable movies.

Her only big main role was in Predestination next to Ethan Hawke. Which was interesting movie. But only for those who love sci-fi. It wasnt even released in USA. And every time I watch taht movie I think how miscast Sarah Snook is and she is simply not a leading lady material.

Now that Succession ended - she will probably vanish once again.
