Is he struggling outside of GoT?

I'm about to watch his film MI-5 from 2015 and so I decided to take a look at his filmography.

Most of what he's appeared in outside of GoT hasn't done great critically and also didn't do big numbers at the box office. I personally enjoyed Pompeii for instance, but it was critically lambasted and lost money. Seventh Son was a total disaster. No one's heard of Brimstone and the critics mostly hated it.

And right now, he only has two projects in production, one of which is an animated film. So that makes me wonder, what's going on with him beyond Game of Thrones and will he be successful as an actor after the show is over?

I hope so, personally. I like him a lot.

reply

I think his career ends with Game of Thrones.
It´s just difficult to cast him in leading roles because he is too smalle and cute.

reply

Hey, he's an inch taller than Tom Cruise and Tom Cruise has made a ton of (successful) action films. I think Stallone is also 5'8" like Kit, though of course Stallone has always been totally jacked.

Kit could work outside the action genre as well, of course.

I really hope you are wrong about his career ending with GoT. Obviously that won't be true, in literal terms. But I hope he doesn't just fade into obscurity either.

reply

He could get roles in romcoms.

I just can´t think of a movie where i say "oh man this could need kit harrington".
He is not that special afterall.
Still i like him in GoT and hope he makes a pretty buck after it and rams his ginger wife.

reply

I think he has a distinctive look and a certain style about him.

Not sure how many other people feel the same way, but what I can say is that if I see that Kit Harington is in a film, I am more likely to watch that movie.

For instance, I just watched MI-5 the other day, and the only reason that film even made it onto my radar was because he's the lead.

reply

Uhm so you mean Tom Cruise now.

reply

By MI-5 I mean MI-5 (also known as Spooks: The Greater Good).

I don't mean Mission: Impossible 5.

reply

Oh well what an inconvenient title.
Yeah It´s called Spooks in my country, which is even a stupider name lol.
Haven´t seen that one.
Only have seen Kit in Silent Hill 2 outside of GoT and well, the movie was pretty bad, not his fault though.

reply

I thought MI-5/Spooks was a pretty decent little spy thriller. It's no James Bond, but for what it is--a $5 million spy film--it's solid and Kit does well in it.

He was also in Pompeii, which I saw as well. That movie certainly has problems, but if you can just accept it as a schlocky B-movie about gladiators and a raging volcano then it is also kind of fun.

He did a mini-series about Guy Fawkes called Gunpowder that I'd like to see next.

reply

If Pompeii appears on Netflix i´ll watch it on a lazy evning.

reply

British cinema will always offer him roles. He'll be fine.

reply

I would like to see him land some high-profile roles after the show, but I guess we'll see what happens.

reply

He is in a big, successful West End play right now.

reply

Dude was typecast, as were many of the actors.

reply

Do you think audiences have trouble seeing him as anything other than Jon Snow?

reply

Yeah, I think most do. He needs another hit series.

reply

I would like to see him make some great movies rather than do more TV, personally. While it was ultimately a silly, lightweight film, I did enjoy Pompei and his presence in it.

reply

That happens a lot with Star Trek actors too.

reply

Joe Namath says that yes, he's "struggling".

I think all of them have struggled after GoT with the exception of Peter Dinklage and probably Charles Dance but they were pretty much established actors/stars when GoT hit the scene.

There was just something kind of magical about GoT, the casting was so perfect. Everyone has a lot to live up to because of that show, and their acting skills just aren't good enough to make the magic last.

Yes, none have gone on to have huge levels of success post-GoT, though some have done better than others. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Lena Headey have both worked regularly at least, and have appeared in some interesting projects. And Hollywood really tried to make Emilia Clarke a thing for a while, though that effort seems to have mostly dried up at this point.

I feel like Maisie Williams is the one who has struggled the most. She's only gotten a handful of gigs since GoT, none were very successful, and currently she has no projects in development listed on IMDB.

reply

Perhaps Nikolaj and Lena could do a show or movie together. If they were casted as lovers, people might watch it. 😄
