Making bad decisions?

I feel like Elle Fanning is making better decisions than her. At the moment, she seems to be going for a punch of cheap b-movies, which is depressing. The only two films that look promising are Can a Song Save Your Life? and The Homesman? According to reviews, she's hardly in the former. Romeo and Juliet looks ok. The Keeping Room sounds fine, plus Brit Marling is also in it. But seriously, Barely Lethal? And with Jessica Alba? Having Jessica Alba as your co-star is a death wish. Ender's Game looks ridiculously cheap. Three Days to Kill? Seriously, a film directed by McG?!

It's an ordinary high school day. Except that it's not.

You're being a little harsh aren't you? She's only 16 and already accomplished more and garnered more recognition than many other actors and actresses can ever dream of doing in their entire careers. She's young, intelligent, and has a bright future. I don't know what you mean by her decision to stay away from mainstream movies, if anything I'm getting the opposite vibe (but even if she focuses on indie films that's not necessarily a bad thing). She has worked with famous stars and continues being in projects associated with established actors. If the movies she appears in don't fare well financially this is hardly her fault. Blame the script writers in Hollywood who seem to obsess over special effects and remakes and the complete lack of originality that is plaguing the industry right now

You can't really judge the decisions until all the movies have come out. Overall, I think it looks like she's done well. It was strange, and a risk, to not appear in anything for three years, but it looks like she's making up for lost time now. With how rare, really, making a good film is, I think it looks like she's been lucky with what she's been offered and what she's taken.

....I agree about 'barley lethal' but we'll have to wait and find out.

It's hard to say without seeing any of her movies yet, but on the surface I think she's doing fine. She's taking a lot of roles which itself can be a great thing, all she needs is one to really hit critically or commercially and regardless of how the rest perform they will still boost her presence.

And Ender's Game is based on a widely popular science fiction novel so there's already a lot of hype to it, Barely Lethal is a comedy which is good because most of her other projects seem to be either period pieces, dramas, or action/thrillers so it can help establish versatility, and even McG's massive flop This Means War grossed $150 million world wide so at the very least you can expect a strong ad campaign and decent exposure for Hailee from it.

What qualifies you to judge is she is making bad decisions.

She is more than likely balancing her educational commitments with her work in films and its entirely possible that she only chooses projects that fit into her schedule.

Jodie Foster only made two films between the ages of 16 and 20 - so actresses at this age often have other factors to consider.

Agreed, Mickey77,

She is an articulate, graceful young lady who is taking her time with her career. I'm sure her education means a great deal to her, I remember her not showing up to any after-Oscar parties when she received her Oscar nod because of school the next day. I look forward to her efforts in the future.

Teenage years are always tough for actors. Most of the teenage roles go to 20-26 year olds because of labor laws and they have more acting experience. It's obviously tough for teen actors to find good roles. I'm not talking about box office mostly, I'm talking about good roles in decent films. I think her and Moretz (Carrie seemed like an avoidable mistake to me but I can kinda see why she wanted the role) are doing their best. I think we have to wait 8-10 years and then talk about rather they are failing or succeeding.
